NCGA/USGA Handicap
We are affiliated with the NCGA (Northern California Golf Association) including the USGA/GHIN (U.S. Golf Association/Golf Handicap Information Network). Club members are issued a personal NCGA/USGA number and records can be viewed on-line. The Club will also mail a postcard to first-time members with their newly issued number. This number is to be used when recording golf scores at any associated golf course nationwide to establish an official handicap index. This membership also will allow one to play at Poppy Hills/Poppy Ridge golf courses at a special member rate. New members from other clubs can transfer their membership to DeLaveaga Golf Club and retain their existing NCGA/USGA number (members can also belong to more than one club.) Plastic membership cards for new members are issued in bulk sometime after January 1 by the NCGA.

Tournaments
Typically, there is a tournament event each month in addition to the popular Tuesday Twilight Nine Hole Tourney which runs from April through August. Free BBQs are provided during the twilight season. See the Tournaments & Events Schedule for dates, formats, and dates of our free BBQs.
The first tournament of the year is the Lance Bei Super Bowl Tournament with a "shamble" shotgun format. The Tournament ends in time for the SuperBowl football game. Many golfers watch the event at the DeLaveaga Lodge. The Annual Members' Dinner is held on the Saturday evening prior to or following the SuperBowl Tournament (see schedule of events.) This event, featuring numerous door prizes, is held annually at the DeLaveaga Lodge. Typical prizes are golf accessories, range balls, bottles of wine, lunches, dinners, and more. The last year's tournament winners are invited as guests, but all members and their family/guests are welcome.![]()
Hole-in-One Award
The Club provides a $100 award to be taken as a credit to the Pro-shop and/or the upstairs DeLaveaga Lodge.
Club Business
Each year, prior to November 30, the membership receives a renewal form/ballot for the coming year. There are nine members elected to the Board of Directors with a three year term of office. The terms are staggered so that three new members are elected each year (or appointed by the Board to fill any resignations). Each Board member is limited to two successive terms. In order to retain persons with skills critical to operation of the Board, the Board may appoint ex officio members to serve on the Board without vote. After the election, the Board votes for its new President and Vice President. The remaining Board members, according to their skills, are then appointed by the President.
The Board meets the first Thursday of each month. Your inputs to any Board member are welcomed.

A Message from our President, Ken Silva
Welcome to DeLaveaga Golf Club! Despite our troubled economy, DeLaveaga Golf Club continues to be one of the largest golf clubs in the state. Our loyal members are a testament to the beauty and quality of DeLaveaga Golf Course. The golf course is now in its sixth year since the renovation project that turned the course from a par 72 to a longer par 70. With each passing season, the renovated areas continue to mature while additional improvements are being made — the course just gets better and better thanks to Course Superintendent Miles Hicks and his staff. This year promises to be another great one for those of us who play mostly at DeLaveaga.
I would like to invite each of you to participate in the monthly tournaments sponsored by the Club. There is a format for everyone — scrambles, better-ball, modified Stapleford, Ryder Cup, Cha-Cha-Cha-Cha, as well as individual handicap. The tournament schedule is listed on this website and tournament reminders are posted at the Pro Shop and on the bulletin board at the bottom of the staircase to the restaurant. If you have provided the Club with an e-mail address, you will be provided with tournament reminders by e-mail. Find a format that you like and come out to play!
For those members who have not participated in a tournament, I encourage you to give one a try. Playing in a tournament is a great way to meet new friends who share a common interest in this great game. There is no reason to feel intimidated — the tournaments are not that serious. They are intended to be fun and those of us who participate regularly can attest that they are just that — fun. You will find that once you’ve participated you will be back for more. If you need assistance finding a partner or team, let the staff in the Pro Shop know. There are usually others also looking
for a partner or team, and the Pro Shop staff will be happy to assist you in getting paired.
Among the Club’s most popular events are the Twilight Tourneys and free BBQ’s. Twilight 9 hole events are held each Tuesday beginning in April and continuing through August. Twice a month (2nd & 4th Tuesdays, May through August) the Club provides a free barbecue for members at the Club’s Barbecue Area located adjacent to the driving range. The food is tremendous. These are events you will not want to miss.
The Club Championship is held annually in June. The tournament is an individual match play by flight, single elimination tournament. This culminates in a series of championship matches by flight on June 19. All of the players who were eliminated through the course of the tournament are invited to play in a separate consolation tournament preceeding the Championship matches. Orion Galioni captured the Club Championship in 2011.
Members of the Board of Directors are listed in this website. All are dedicated to providing you with the best possible golf club experience. We are open to any suggestions you may have to improve the Club and its events, so let us know. This is your Club — we want you to enjoy it.

Junior Scholarship Fund
The DeLaveaga Junior Golf Scholarship Fund was originally established in 1988 through the efforts of two outstanding Club members (since deceased.) In their memory, the Fund has been renamed The Eli Bariteau - Bob Schultz Junior Golf Scholarship Fund. The Fund is supported mainly by contributions by friends and Club members. A portion of the Fund is dedicated for use by Cabrillo College applicants with the remainder to be used by Santa Cruz County applicants who are attending other colleges. The Fund seeks to be perpetually endowed so that only the income is available for grants.
The Scholarship Fund is an easy way for you to contribute something back to the community. Please think of the Fund when you complete your renewal for the upcoming year. With your support, we hope to be able to help more students in the future. We are always accepting Scholarship applications, and are interested in hearing from any other students who are truly in need of financial assistance. We are now accepting applications for future funding. Applicants must be golfers from Santa Cruz County and must be enrolled in a two or four year college program.
The Club also has made an annual donations of $1000 to the Santa Cruz County Junior Golf Association (SCCJGA). Their all-volunteer staff is dedicated to providing Junior golfers, from 8 to 18 of all skill levels, the opportunity to play golf and to learn the rules and etiquette of the game. The money will supplement tournament green fees, tournament prizes, rule books, golf clinics, teaching programs and scholarships for beginning lessons. Their website is www.sccjga.com.
Currently, we are sponsoring GARY YORO (formerly from Cabrillo and currently at Stanislaus State) MICHAEL KUO who is at Biola..
Please contact Barry Bariteau, Scholarship Fund Chairman at (831) 423-1500 with any further questions, or with offers of assistance.
